www.google.com

Google is widely considered one of the best, if not the best, search engine currently available on the Internet. Known for its ease of use, speed, and accuracy, Google has gained wide-spread popularity, offering cutting edge technology to effectively search through the World Wide Web (both HTML and pdf), images, Usenet groups and domestic and international news. Users can search in English, or in a variety of different languages using Google's international search engines. Google only runs text ads on its site.

Google also offers a wide variety of other services, including translations, an online Web directory (taken from the Open Directory) and Froogle, a service launched to help people find information about products for sale online. Google News constantly monitors and indexes thousands of news sites across the Net. Recently Google added Blogger.com, as a move into the community space.

The Google Web search technology accounts for over 75% if all Web searches (this includes searches done on the Google site itself, as well as, partners such as AOL and Yahoo! that use the Google Web search on their own sites). This is likely to change as Yahoo! moves to Inktomi for its Web search in the months ahead. But still if you are going to optimize your Web pages for one search engine, it should be Google.

Google was started by Stanford Ph.D. students Larry Page and Sergey Brin.
